Dr. Klein's research interests focus on the application of remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) technologies to the study of the cryosphere. His research includes using remote sensing both to study the present state of the cryosphere as well as how it changes on seasonal to glacial/interglacial timescales. Currently, he is colloborating with researchers at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center on the development and validation of algorithms used to create global daily snow-cover maps for the NASA Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument scheduled for launch in 1999.
