ESSM student takes 2nd prize in SSSA poster competition
Ilsa
B. Kantola, Ph.D. student and Graduate Diversity Fellow in ESSM,
was awarded 2nd Place in the Graduate Student Poster Competition
sponsored by the Soil Biology and Biochemistry Division at the
joint Annual Meeting of the Soil Science Society of America,
Geological Society of America, American Society of Agronomy, and
Crop Science Society of America. The meeting was held in Houston,
TX on October 5-9, 2008 and was attended by more than 10,000
geoscientists and life scientists from all over the world. The
title of Ilsa's poster was "Composition and diversity of soil
microbial communities following vegetation change from grassland to
woodland: An assessment using molecular methods." Coauthors of this
poster presentation were Dr. T.W. Boutton from ESSM, and Dr. T.J.
Gentry and E.C. Martin from the Department of Soil and Crop
Sciences. Ilsa received her B.S. degree in Environmental
Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in 2006,
and her home town is Sacramento, CA.
