Dirac Twidwell awarded Best Presentation at World Conference in Perth, Australia
Dirac
Twidwell, a PhD student in ESSM, was awarded Best Student Oral
Presentation at the World Conference "Making Change in a Changing
World" for the Society of Ecological Restoration International
(SERI). Approximately 1000 people attended the conference
from all inhabited continents across the world. Dirac
Twidwell's talk, "Overcoming ecological and social resilience to
restore fire dependent ecosystems," focused on quantifying
resilience using features of the adaptive cycle to directly
integrate and overcome ecological and societal constraints to
fire. His talk was featured by invited speakers in later
sessions as a "great paper that… finally allows us to gain a better
handle on how to apply resilience concepts." Coauthors of the
presentation included Dr. William E. Rogers (ESSM), Dr. Samuel D.
Fuhlendorf (NREM, OK State), Dr. Charles A. Taylor, Jr. (ESSM), and
Dr. Urs P. Kreuter (ESSM).
